National Exchange Point (LSP)

Read more about the National Exchange Point (LSP).

How does the National Exchange Point work?

Your general practitioner and pharmacy each maintain their own file on you. This contains information that is important for your treatment. Your GP records your symptoms and the treatments you receive. Your pharmacist registers which medications you are prescribed and which medications you are allergic to.
This data can be exchanged via the National Exchange Point (LSP).

For a clear explanation of the LSP, you can watch the video from Volg je Zorg below.

Giving consent

Does your GP or pharmacy use the LSP? If so, they will ask for your consent to make your data available through this network. Once you have given your consent, your healthcare provider registers your details with the LSP by providing your Citizen Service Number (BSN).

Requesting data

Another healthcare provider can then request your data if it is necessary for your treatment. The LSP uses your Citizen Service Number to search for which healthcare providers have made data about you available. If data is available, the healthcare provider can request and view it.
Only your BSN and the details of which GP and pharmacy have data available about you are listed in the network. Your medical data is therefore not stored in the LSP.

Regional

The LSP is divided into approximately forty regions. All out-of-hours GP services, general practitioners, and pharmacies that use the LSP are assigned to one of these regions and can potentially join another region. Within such a region, healthcare providers exchange data with each other. An exception is made for hospitals. They often have patients from multiple regions and can therefore exchange data with several regions.

In principle, patients do not notice the regional division unless they also visit healthcare providers in other regions. In that case, it may happen that data cannot be retrieved. You can see in which region or regions your healthcare provider can exchange data via the regional classification.

Do you want healthcare providers to be able to share your medical data electronically?

You can give verbal consent for this if your GP or pharmacist asks. Additionally, you can print, fill out, and submit the form to your healthcare provider. You can also arrange your consent online at www.ikgeeftoestemming.nl. It is possible that multiple healthcare providers have data about you that they wish to share. In that case, please provide your consent to each healthcare provider. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
