This general practice employs a mental health nurse practitioner, commonly referred to as a POH GGZ. The POH GGZ is a professional with extensive knowledge and experience in mental health care.
Why have a mental health nurse practitioner in the general practice?
For many people, it is preferable not to be referred (immediately) to a psychologist or a mental health institution. The POH GGZ offers the advantage that patients with psychological concerns can easily be referred to an expert within the general practice.
What can the POH GGZ do for you?
The POH GGZ will discuss your symptoms and concerns with you. It is also possible to discuss the history of your symptoms and what you have already tried to resolve them. The initial consultation lasts approximately 45 minutes. Follow-up appointments are usually scheduled for 30 minutes.
Subsequently, the POH GGZ advises you and your GP on a possible approach to address the symptoms. This may involve a number of follow-up consultations with the POH GGZ. It is also possible that advice will be given for further treatment or guidance. This may include eHealth modules, self-help websites, a psychologist, or a mental health institution. Since 2014, treatment by a psychologist or a mental health institution is only reimbursed in the case of a psychiatric diagnosis.
The POH GGZ can assist you by:
- clarifying the problem
- providing information about symptoms, causes, and possible solutions
- providing advice on treatment and potential referral
- providing short-term guidance within the general practice
- providing aftercare following treatment in specialized mental health care
The POH GGZ is bound by professional confidentiality. This means that he or she will not discuss your situation with others unless you have given your explicit consent.
How do you make an appointment with the POH GGZ?
In consultation with you, the GP can refer you to the POH GGZ and schedule an appointment.
Costs
The costs are covered by basic insurance, similar to general practitioner care. Your deductible (eigen risico) will not be affected.
